Versatile Peterson agrees to three-year extension
By Larry Mayer
June 28, 2006
LAKE FOREST, Ill. - The Bears on Wednesday agreed to terms with running back Adrian Peterson on a three-year contract extension through the 2009 season.
Running back Adrian Peterson rushed for a career-high 391 yards last season.
The 2002 sixth-round draft pick from Georgia Southern has developed into one of Chicago's most valuable and versatile players.
Last season he ranked third on the team with 18 special-teams tackles while rushing for 391 yards and 2 touchdowns on 76 carries.
Peterson registered the first 100-yard game of his career last Nov. 13, rushing for 120 yards and 1 TD on 24 carries in a 17-9 victory over the San Francisco 49ers at Soldier Field.
A week earlier, the 5-10, 220-pounder had rushed for a career-high 58 yards and 1 TD on six attempts in a 20-17 win over the New Orleans Saints in Baton Rouge, La.
In 2004, Peterson led the Bears with 28 special-teams tackles, the highest individual total since the team starting tracking the statistic in 1995.
Before agreeing to terms Wednesday, Peterson was slated to become an unrestricted free agent after the 2006 season.
Also on Wednesday, the Bears signed former Seattle Seahawks wide receiver Alex Bannister and released cornerback Chris Thompson and wide receivers C.J. Fayton and Mark Philmore.[/b]

AP is a class act, he could easily be a great #2 man for a team.
He always comes to work, never complains, never gripes, def. a great player, i like this move.
Maybe he's banking on TJ to be traded/gone and if ced goes down he gets the call.
