Where did you see that ?
I just read both articles, twice, and saw no mention of money.
Either way, it doesn't matter. If he got $5M to sign then all he is guaranteed to get is $5M over 5 years......that's nothing.

LAKE FOREST, Ill. -- The Chicago Bears on Thursday signed starting strongside linebacker Hunter Hillenmeyer to a five-year contract extension.

ESPN.com's John Clayton reports that the deal includes a $5 million signing bonus.
Hillenmeyer was eligible to become an unrestricted free agent after the 2006 season. This contract locks him up through 2011.
Overshadowed on a defense which features Pro Bowl middle linebacker Brian Urlacher and pass-rushing ends Adewale Ogunleye and Alex Brown, Hillenmeyer ranks as the Bears' third-leading tackler over the last two seasons with 161.
Originally a fifth-round pick of Green Bay in 2003, Hillenmeyer signed with the Bears after being waived by the Packers. He emerged as a starter in 2004, recording 90 tackles, 2½ sacks, one forced fumble and one fumble recovery. Hillenmeyer had 71 tackles, one sack and one interception last season.
