The Bears have caught the attention of the NFL with their 5-0 start and 24-point average margin of victory. But it doesn't get any easier; take it from someone who knows.
"Winning three games in a row is hard. Winning five games in a row is hard," said Indianapolis coach Tony Dungy, whose Colts opened the 2005 season with 13 victories, finished 14-2 and lost in the divisional playoff round to the Pittsburgh Steelers.
"Now to do that two more times and then win the last one, I wish 'em luck. I hope they're the ones everybody's focused on. But it's not easy.
"I'm kind of glad it's not us this year. I'll let Lovie [Smith] handle that, and they seem to be doing a pretty good job of it."
Upon further review
Quarterback Matt Leinart's performance in Arizona's exhibition victory over the Bears did not elicit extreme concern when Smith talked about the Cardinals rookie earlier this week.
As film of his play last Sunday against Kansas City came under study and Monday night's game came closer, the tone of comments about Leinart changed noticeably.
"He had a veteran's presence about him," the Bears coach said. "He played very well against us the first time. Experience makes you better, so we've definitely seen improvement."
