Something smells funny with the rankings

In the NFC Standings thread Tampa is listed ahead of Carolina in both spots, which is bogus by the ranking system stated in the thread.


Tampa has only scored 3 points in 2 games! Carolina has scored 19...


wow Tampa, even Oakland scored 6 points on the Ravens... in Baltimore....

Mark Boo-nell
Aron Brooks
Dante Culpepper

all come to mind pretty quick


of course if it's a playoff game, then give my Manning (either one)

The division standings were just copied from ESPN.

I set up the Overall rankings, with the process in the second post of the thread.

Overall rankings are done by the following, in order:

- Overall record
- Division record
- Conference record
- Points scored
- Points allowed[/b]

Tampa Bay: OVR: 0-2, DIV: 0-1, CONF: 0-1

Carolina: OVR: 0-2, DIV: 0-1, CONF: 0-2

- Overall record = tie
- Division record = tie
- Conference record = Bucs 0-1, Panthers 0-2

The Panthers are below the Bucs right now for the conference tie breaker. If the Bucs had played an NFC team Week 1 and lost, instead of losing to an AFC team, their conference record would also be 0-2, which would then take us to the Points scored tie breaker. If it had gone that far, that tie breaker would have put the Panthers ahead of the Bucs. Since the Bucs have only lost one conference game, and all other previous records are tied, they are rated higher. Once the tie is broken between the teams, no other steps are taken.

It doesn't really matter seeing that it's week two and all, but if we're nitpicking, the Cowboys should be in second because they have a 1-0 Division record and the Eagles have an 0-1 Division record.
