Eagles Notes | Bunkley pays price for chicken stop
Eagles Notes
Blame the chicken and the traffic light.
That's why Eagles defensive tackle Brodrick Bunkley missed the team's charter flight to Indianapolis on Saturday.
"I got caught up in some traffic," Bunkley said after practice yesterday. "That's about it."
Well, not entirely.
"I was picking up some chicken for the guys," Bunkley said. "That's usually a tradition we do around here, and I just got caught up in some traffic. It was a broken traffic light on Island and Bartram. It was a little traffic jam."
Bunkley, the Eagles' first-round draft pick last June, took a commercial flight to Indianapolis and made it in time for Saturday night's scheduled meetings at the team hotel, but was deactivated by coach Andy Reid for the first time this season.
"You never want to do something like that," Bunkley said of missing the flight. "It just shows you're being irresponsible. I apologized to Coach Reid as soon as I got there and to my coaches."
Bunkley said he was not surprised that he did not play against the Colts.
"I kind of figured something was going to happen," he said. "I wasn't sure what. Of course, I wanted to play Sunday night. It was a chance to go against Peyton Manning. They did what they did, so I have no problem with it."
