NFL Network's Adam Schefter reports the Bucs have made inquiries about disgruntled Bears franchise player Lance Briggs.
Schefter says Tampa may simply be doing its "due diligence," like with Saints franchise player Charles Grant earlier in the offseason. But the Bucs are making an effort to get younger on defense, dubbing Barrett Ruud a starter and signing Cato June. If they don't like what they see at No. 4, it's possible the Bucs will trade out and Briggs will be involved.
Too much to give up IMO. Even if its a swap of 1sts. Too much to give.
Brooks is still on the team so no one else will be playing the weak side and we just signed Cato for the strong side. Ruud was a high 2nd just two seasons ago and will play middle.
This is just another smoke screen I'd assume. Send a message back to the top teams in the draft that we're not stuck in a position where its CJ or bust.
If Angelo didn't want 6 I doubt if he'll want 4... unless maybe he gets to keep his other first-rounder.

Six and four are very different monsters in this draft. At four, he is going to be in a fantastic spot. Thomas or CJ will almost definitely be there, and if they aren't, a team will be wanting to trade up for one of the QBs. If we were able to get CJ, I would wave goodbye to Briggs with barely any remorse.

I think this is horse****, but I hope it is not.

But JA isn't really keen on paying top 5 money... unless it's for one of the caliber players you were talking about, but he'll still balk even if he wants it. That's what I was referring to.

But, like you, I think this is horse****.

I think you underestimate JA. He doesn't have a problem paying players if he thinks they are worth it. However, he likes to trade down because he feels you can accumulate more talent that way. I think if he had the option of getting CJ or Thomas, he would shell out those bucks.

That's not actually how I meant it, I think you read me saying "JA is cheap." That's the opposite of what I mean (also the driving argument in any PeanutTillman anti-Bears post). I think that JA has a master plan as far as where the salary cap money is going now and in the next couple of years, and a massive contract for a rookie isn't anywhere in those plans (neither is a record-setting contract for Briggs). He's very careful (and smart) with contracts. Casual fans just see it as "cheap" though.
