Default Urlacher fined $7,500

Urlacher feeling fine -- all $7,500 of it

October 20, 2007
BY BRAD BIGGS

Brian Urlacher had urged those curious about the shape of his back to take a look at the injury report.

He must be feeling better, because the Pro Bowl middle linebacker practiced on a Friday for the first time since Week 1 and was off the injury report for the first time since Week 2.

''I'm fine,'' he had snapped Thursday. ''Was I on the injury report? Did you see the injury report? Go check it out.''

That was good news for the Bears as they continue to heal heading into Sunday's meeting with the Philadelphia Eagles (3:15 p.m., Fox-32, 780-AM).

''We have the majority of our team ready to go,'' coach Lovie Smith said. ''We want to go in with our best guys.''

Urlacher's well-being was an issue after he came out of the loss to the Minnesota Vikings with only five tackles. One of them proved costly: The league revealed Urlacher was fined $7,500 for unnecessary roughness on a tackle of Vikings running back Chester Taylor in the second quarter. Taylor went around the left side, and Urlacher used what the NFL considered a horse-collar tackle to bring him down from behind, though no flag was thrown.

It's the same fine cornerback Corey Graham received for a horse-collar tackle at Detroit three weeks ago -- a penalty he has appealed.

The NFL is taking a hard stance on the ''Roy Williams rule'' that seems to be broken most by the man it's named after -- Dallas safety Roy Williams. Williams was fined for a horse collar on the Bears' Desmond Clark and has been fined for at least two other horse-collar penalties.

Is the NFL/Goodell on a revenue generating spree?

The same thing happened to the Pats Wilfork in the Cowboys game last week too.
