Another Witness Steps Forward In Benson Case
Quote:
Another witness has come forward on behalf of Cedric Benson, saying he saw police "manhandling" the running back.
The witness was not on Benson's boat, but says he saw police taking Benson to their squad car. "As they were taking him up the dock, they stopped, he said, 'I am fine, I can continue walking,' and they put their legs behind his knees and knocked him over his knees and started hog-carrying him," Patch said. He continued: ""They ended up--I don't know why--but laid him on his back, I heard him say, 'Please don't pepper spray me, please don't pepper spray me... It was uncalled for, it was ludicrous, no point for it."

Cedric Benson did not attend the Bears' voluntary workout program on Tuesday, but he did meet with team officials.
Benson had said he hoped to be at the workout after his incident at sea, and for good reason: $400,000 of his signing bonus depends on his attendance at 85 percent of the the workouts over his four-year contract. Benson should be back on the field by the end of the week.

Seems like the police have some explaining to do.

What sucks is Benson's image is the only thing being damaged here. The LCRA and Travis County Officers who are in the wrong here might get suspended with pay... Same thing they did for Sgt. Oleson of APD who gunned down someone who he thought had a gun. To find out he fired several shots and there wasn't a gun found. The Officer got what I call vacation... Give me my pay check and tell me I don't have to come to work. That's Vacation. Finally half a year later they decide the officer was in the wrong and fired him but it took a new police chief for that to happen.
Benson should take these guys to civil court just to be hassle them the way they've made it a point to hassle him.

Regardless of the outcome of this incident, he didn't have much of an image to begin with.

I don't believe it... Benson's friends are all gonna say he's innocent even if he isn't. I might not believe this if he had never had legal issues before, but he has. He is just a person who gets in trouble with the law.

Oops... I missed that part. Well regardless, I still don't believe that he's innocent.

Only time he's shown agressiveness was taking his TV and game system back from an ex's place. Not knowing the whole story there I give the guy the benefit of the doubt knowing I'd be pretty ticked if I couldn't get my stuff back from an ex. APD also never reported any like LCRA is reporting. Other charges of possession of pot were dropped where no guns or any reports of anything like the LCRA is reporting. The local news shows a pretty good video of him entering the jail pretty calm and seeming pretty sober.
He may not have much of an image in Chicago or the rest of the league but the one of trouble maker doesn't need to be thrown on the guy because of some power tripping good ol boy's lake security.
