Bears running back Cedric Benson had been stopped ''several times'' aboard his boat in Texas before last weekend's arrest but never had been charged with a violation, his attorney said Friday. Attorney Sam Bassett said he sent a letter to Texas authorities to preserve any documents related to previous stops ''to get a picture of what's going on.'' Bassett said he couldn't pinpoint the number of contacts Benson had had with authorities but called the frequency ''not illegal but unusual.''
