Yes it was a totally different style of football back then. Mostly a running game though that progressed into the wide open style of football that we have today. George Halas was responsible for the T formation that led to the game we have today.
Very interesting reading on how football evolved over the years. I have the utmost respect for the fore fathers of the game.
