Chicago Bears wanted by Romeoville

Romeoville's proposed sports complex isn't even in the beginning stages of construction, but that hasn't stopped the south suburb from trying to lure the Bears there.
In fact, the proposed complex on the campus of Lewis University was originally described as being a 40-acre complex with eight to nine baseball fields, modeled after Cooperstown Dreams Park, in Cooperstown, N.Y.
Still, Romeoville Mayor John Noak said today he made a visit to Halas Hall earlier this week in an attempt to convince Bears officials to relocate the team's training camp there.
The Bears current camp contract with Olivet Nazarene University in Bourbonnais is set to expire in August, although it is believed team officials favor picking up the option year in 2010 to stay there for the foreseeable future.
Noak, who said he was with Lewis University officials when they met with Bears officials Tuesday, said he initiated the meeting. He would not say what was discussed, only it was "just talk" at this stage. Bears officials confirmed an informal meeting occurred but also would not say what was talked about.
"We are just honored to be a part of the conversation for a potential site for the Bears," said Noak. "This opportunity may not ever happen again."
In March, village officials announced a partnership with Lewis University and White Sox investor Larry Gould and White Sox groundskeeper Roger Bossard for a new state-of-the-art youth sports complex at the campus.
