Bengals sign WR Chad Johnson to new deal
April 20, 2006

CINCINNATI (Ticker) - The Cincinnati Bengals are especially concerned with keeping Chad Johnson happy.

Already signed through the 2009 season, the three-time Pro Bowl receiver got a new deal on Thursday. Johnson is now signed through the 2011 season.

According to reports, Johnson will receive $35.5 million over the next six years.

"This is a key development for our team," Bengals coach Marvin Lewis said. "It further secures our future with one of our top players, in the prime of his career, and I want to commend Chad for his efforts in making this happen. He is showing his commitment to what we have going here."

This is actually a great move by Cincy and they should have a strong offensive core for years and years.

bigboy, what do you think that chances that they go TE in the first, I have heard that they are interested in pope to give them a big target to go along with those other weapons, it could make their offense even more scary.

It's possible but from what people are saying is Pope is falling faster then a lead balloon, maybe Lewis but their offense IMO anyway is fine, they need D.

Yes they need D, mostly secondary. I could very easily see them going TE in the 2nd or 3rd though. TE's are deep this year, and ellis is right, they could use another weapon.

where have you been reading that pope has been falling, I have only heard that lewis is falling and people like pope because his size sets him apart from the rest.

Ive read that pope may fall into the mid second, Lost of TEs in the draft and alot of people see tight end as a second rate position and not worth useing your First rounder.

TE's and especially ones with size and ability are becoming a hot commodity in the nfl these days, more and more teams are implementing an offense that spreads more and TE like pope don't come around that often, IMO
