Sunday was a 60-minute flashback for Chuck Bresnahan. The memories weren't fond ones, either.
"I thought I was going through San Diego again," said Bresnahan, the Bengals' defensive coordinator. "But this was different because it went the whole game."
Cleveland's 51-45 win against the Bengals burst the bubble of good feelings and hope for the much-maligned defense that had been expanding after a season-opening 27-20 win against Baltimore. Instead of repeating their performance against the Ravens, the Bengals equaled the mark for second-most points allowed in franchise history; the Bengals lost at Buffalo, 51-24, in 1979. Carolina beat the Bengals 52-31 in a game in Charlotte in 2002.
Sunday's carnage topped the points allowed last season in a 49-41 loss against San Diego, a game in which the Chargers scored 42 points in the second half.
On Wednesday, Bresnahan took full responsibility as he spoke with reporters after practice.
