The Bengals practiced Wednesday with four healthy linebackers, one of whom was in his first day on the job.
Dhani Jones, a nine-year veteran, was signed to a one-year contract earlier in the day. He takes the roster spot left open when the Bengals waived Andre Frazier on Tuesday. Frazier was claimed by Pittsburgh, the team he originally entered the league with in 2005, on Wednesday.
Jones played four seasons each with the New York Giants and Philadelphia before signing with New Orleans as a free agent this offseason. He was with the Saints when they came to town for a two-a-day practice session with the Bengals prior to a preseason game on Aug. 18. The Saints released him on Aug. 31.
"We've had an opportunity to watch him here on our practice fields and then kind of followed him since then," said head coach Marvin Lewis. "He stood out when they were here practicing against us, and they decided not to keep him there at the end. It gives us an opportunity to have a guy who's experienced, who's already been playing and knows how to play."
