The New England Patriots have always brought out the best in Sammy Morris. And on Monday night, for once, they actually benefited from it.
Morris, the eighth-year pro out of Texas Tech, is in his first season with the Patriots. He entered Monday night's game against the Bengals third on the depth chart at running back. But when starter Laurence Maroney was held out with a groin injury, the team turned to Morris.
"It was a game-time decision for Laurence," said Morris, who was known primarily as a special-teams specialist in stints with Buffalo and Miami. "I think what I do in the offseason prepares you for a situation like that. It's not a surprise or a shock. I'm not affected any way if I do have to start."
