In 2002 the Tennessee Titans opened the season with a tight three-point win at home against Philadelphia, a team that had won its division the previous season. The Titans then lost their next four games, including giving up 52 points in one of those defeats.
"It was bad. We were at a low point," said Bengals defensive tackle John Thornton, who was a member of the Titans in 2002. "It was a bad place to be, but we got a win and got on a roll."
The Titans broke their losing streak with a 23-14 win against Jacksonville and then went on to win 10 of their next 11 games to win the AFC South division and reach the AFC title game. That Tennessee team is one of just eight teams in the NFL since 2000 to start a season 1-3 and rebound to reach the playoffs.
