Browns sign NT Washington to two-year contract

March 13, 2006
CLEVELAND (Ticker) - After taking care of offensive needs in the beginning of free agency, the Cleveland Browns addressed the other side of the ball on Monday, signing nose tackle Ted Washington to a two-year contract.

Financial terms were not disclosed.

A four-time Pro Bowl selection, the 6-5, 365-pound Washington has tallied 982 tackles and 34 1/2 sacks over 215 games in his 15-year career with San Francisco, Denver, Buffalo, Chicago, New England and Oakland.

Washington started all 16 games with the Raiders last season, recording 44 tackles.

On Saturday, the first day of the free agency period, the Browns signed center LeCharles Bentley, offensive tackle Kevin Shaffer and wide receiver Joe Jurevicius.

Washington is pretty old, but he can still bring it. Another big signing by the Browns. This division is going to be crazy next year.

Well said Ellis

I actually touched on this in the other thread, I like the signing, he brings a veteran presence and knows the 3-4 NT spot and is instant stability in a running division, good move, I like all of the moves they made.

that guy is so fat that he could be unconscious and stop the run better than a lot of guys. This hurts the oakland defense in that they actually performed well against the run last year and now the middle is a little more open

Cleveland's not messing around. AFC North will be tough next season, but that's fine. I like a little competition.

There may be a bit more but the Steelers have all the ingredients to take that division again, and watch they'll replace every guy they lost with out missing a beat, one of the better drafting teams in the NFL.

Washington and McGinnest. Man, if they got a guy like Mario Williams they could have a nice Defensive line.

They are old, but I think they have another year left in the tank. I'll just say they will be better off than what they had last year. So, it's an improvement.
