Default Cleveland Browns running back Jamal Lewis on cover of Sports Illustrated

cleveland.com: Everything Cleveland
Quote:
Running back Jamal Lewis was surprised Monday to hear he was on the cover of Sports Illustrated's fantasy football issue.

"I hadn't heard that yet," said Lewis. "That's news to me. That's a great accomplishment but I think it does more to expose the Browns more than myself, to put this team out there, just to let people know we're coming and that we're going to be a threat this year."

How many times has Lewis been on the SI cover?

"Never."

Not even when he set the NFL single-game rushing record of 295 yards against the Browns on Sept. 14, 2003?

"Nope," he said.

Lewis is shown blasting through rubber arms during a running drill in camp. The headline reads "NFL Camps Open - Secrets and Surprises." Lewis grabbed the attention of SI senior writer Peter King, who spent time at camp this week and wrote the main article.

During his visit, King wrote on SI.com: "I think the most impressive person in this camp has got to be running back Jamal Lewis. Not only is the guy in ridiculously good shape after a second ankle surgery in two years, he is mentally strong. He is also highly motivated to show the Ravens they made a mistake when they let him go in free agency following the season. And, he told me after practice this afternoon, 'I weigh 239, not 251 or 252, like I used to. This is the best I've felt in a long time.' "

Lewis was asked if he's aware of the Sports Illustrated jinx.

"I don't believe in jinxes," he said. "I've been hurt, injured - I have had the jinx and all that. It's not a big thing to me."
Good news for Dallas fans.

people should put more stock in facts than superstitions, Cleveland will be bad because of the division they play in and they just to not have the team yet ready to compete.

Ellis's hatred of all things "jinx" has been evident for quite some time
