Ryan Tucker didn't want to generate false hopes, but he's impressed with his new offensive line.
''The running game is just on another level right now,'' Tucker said Tuesday. ''Better than it has been since I've been here. That's right now, today, in camp.''
Tucker cites the addition of guards Eric Steinbach and Seth McKinney and the drafting of Joe Thomas as proof the line can be an asset in 2007 instead of a problem as it has been.
''They're good athletes,'' Tucker said, ''and physical.''
The team has started moving players around a bit, with Kevin Shaffer taking reps at right tackle and Thomas moving in at left tackle.
Tucker, because of his veteran status, is getting breaks.
''He's one of those guys that we also look at as an elder statesman,'' coach Romeo Crennel said. ''He's had some issues so we try to give him some time off to keep him somewhat fresh.''
Tucker said he has not yet practiced at right guard, but said it's possible he could.
''Basically,'' he said, ''they want the best five guys out there.''
