Browns | Wimbley talks start again
Sun, 16 Jul 2006 07:17:24 -0700

Tony Grossi, of the Plain Dealer, reports the Cleveland Browns and agent Joe Linta resumed contract talks this week as they try to get first-round pick LB Kamerion Wimbley signed before the first training camp practice July 26. The Browns have not avoided a camp holdout from a No. 1 pick since the 2000 season. "I have no reason to think he won't be in on time," Linta said. "I mean, we're not getting mad at each other." The major issues for an agreement are number of years, five or six, and how much more money Wimbley would get compared with last year's 13th pick. Although the parameters of a new collective bargaining agreement present new challenges this year, Linta said, "This isn't rocket science."

the Browns just have terrible luck with their first round picks. If their not injured, their holding out

I used to root for the bengals, but they made soo many horrible picks and decisions that when the browns came back I switched sides. This is just experience speaking here but Cleveland please trade your first round pick next year(which should be a top 5 pick the way the offense looks on paper) for a proven young and hungry free agent and a 2nd or 3rd round pick. The practice time you gain and the money you save might be worth 1 or 2 wins after a year. But if trading the first round pick is just too tempting especially with it being soo high.... Draft A Kicker They NEVER Hold Out!!!

Browns sign first-round pick Wimbley to six-year deal
By Len Pasquarelli
ESPN.com

The Cleveland Browns on Saturday signed first-round draft choice Kamerion Wimbley, ensuring that the Browns will have their first-round choice in camp on time.

Cleveland rookies are scheduled to report to camp Sunday.

The 13th overall selection in the draft, Wimbley signed a six-year contract. The team did not disclose financial terms, but ESPN.com learned the deal has a maximum value of $23.7 million, including $9.3 million in guarantees. That represents a nearly 10 percent increase in the guaranteed money paid to the 13th overall pick in the 2005 draft.

"It shows the fans and the team I'm ready to be a Brown," Wimbley said.

The deal will be voided after five years provided Wimbley reaches predetermined playing time thresholds, and then the Browns would have the right to "buy back" the voided year by paying Wimbley a sizeable bonus.

"We are extremely pleased to have Kamerion signed prior to the start of training camp," Browns general manager Phil Savage said in a statement. "We are looking forward to seeing Kamerion grow and develop as a member of the Browns."
