"With DeMario, it's a situation where his knee flared up in June," Savage said. "We tried to rehab him to point (that he could play), but his knee did not respond."
Wilson, a third-round pick, is the team's only remaining unsigned draft choice. Savage said the team "made some progress" with Wilson's contract Tuesday night, but nothing is imminent.
ABOUT THE "PUP" LIST - Teams can place players rehabbing injuries on the PUP list prior to the start of training camp, and at any point during training camp the player can pass his physical and return to action.
Because the team placed him on PUP prior to the start of training camp, if the player needs further time to recover from an injury when the regular season begins and rosters are trimmed to 53, the team has the option to place the player on the PUP list at the beginning of the regular season and avoid using a roster spot.
If a player begins the regular season on the PUP list, he must remain on the PUP list for at least the first six weeks of the regular season before a three-to-six week window opens when the player can begin practicing and eventually be activated to the 53-man roster, if he's healthy, or placed on injured-reserve.
