Browns rookie quarterback Brady Quinn wants Ken Dorsey back
cleveland.com: Everything Cleveland
Quote:
Browns rookie quarterback Brady Quinn cast his vote Monday for the return of quarterback Ken Dorsey, who was released Saturday.
"I think that's something we need on this team," Quinn said. "He's invaluable. You can't put a price on the things I think he brought to the table for us as a team."
Quinn said "it was a sad day" for him in more ways than one when Dorsey was let go.
"He was a mentor, a friend, someone to help me out, not only here but off the field and everything," Quinn said. "Just dealing with things, giving a lot of brotherly advice, that sort of thing. So you couldn't meet a better guy, a better teammate, a better person."
Dorsey was to Quinn what Gary Danielson was to Bernie Kosar in his first few seasons in the mid-1980s: a smart veteran mentor who didn't want his job. What's more, Dorsey knows Rob Chudzinski's offense from playing for him at the University of Miami.
Browns General Manager Phil Savage didn't rule out the possibility of Dorsey returning.
"It could be as a fourth quarterback," Savage said. "It could be if we have an injury that comes up at a position that we have enough depth to get by on special teams."
Roye update:
Defensive end Orpheus Roye tested his scoped right knee in practice Monday to determine if he'll be ready to face his former team Sunday.
"This will be my first evaluation, and we'll take it from there," he said. "It's my old team, a big division rivalry, the opening game of the season. There's a lot at stake, so I'll do my best to get on the field."

Must be afraid of competition.

Dorsey is a smart QB, we all knew he wouldn't really make it in the NFL, but having a guy like that mentoring your QB of the future isn't really a bad thing.
