PFW shows a little love for the Browns
After years of stinking it up (except 0ne 9-7 season) since the Browns return in '99, my Brownies are getting a little love (albeit small love)
from the press.
Beefed-up offensive line yields potent passing game
Oct. 5, 2007
In Romeo Crennel’s first two seasons as Browns head coach, Cleveland quarterbacks were sacked 100 times. Through four games in ’07, the line had allowed only seven sacks. The way we hear it, the improvement in pass protection is a function of several factors. There is little doubt the Browns are fielding their most-talented offensive line in recent years, led by rookie OLT Joe Thomas, well-regarded veteran OLG Eric Steinbach and steady C Hank Fraley.
It also helps that QB Derek Anderson delivers the ball quickly and is just mobile enough to sidestep trouble when needed. And Anderson has no shortage of receivers popping open in a suddenly potent passing offense that has come alive under first-year offensive coordinator Rod Chudzinski. Put all of these factors together, and you have the most interesting, in-rhythm Browns offense in recent memory.
