Winslow Says Im Elite, Pay Me.

Browns tight end Kellen Winslow told Sirius NFL Radio on Thursday that he wants to renegotiate his contract.
"When I got hurt [in 2005], the contract got renegotiated, so some things changed, but I think I've proven these past two years that I'm one of the elite tight ends," Winslow said from the Pro Bowl in Hawaii.
"My value on the field, they put in an extra DB in the game, and that really changes the whole game. They have to guard me kind of like a wide receiver so, you know, yeah, gotta to get that new money."
He was asked specifically whether he'll seek a new deal.
He's currently signed through 2010 and will make $4 million in 2008, $4.5 million in 2009 and $4.75 million in 2010.
"Yeah. Hope so. Hope so," Winslow said of a new contract. Browns General Manager Phil Savage was not available for comment Thursday evening. But earlier in the day, he said in an email negotiations for quarterback Derek Anderson are positive and that both short-term and long-term deals have been discussed. He said a report that Anderson is asking for a five-year deal is inaccurate.
"Generally, the focus of our discussions has been on a shorter [two- to three-year deal] or a longer [six- to seven-year contract]," said Savage.
"Never has a five-year proposal been part of the conversation. Only those involved in the negotiations really know what is going on and I would characterize things as positive thus far."
Savage said the Browns have been proposing deals of two, three or even four years, while Anderson's camp has been seeking the longer one. But talks have been steady he remains optimistic. If the Browns don't sign Anderson by Feb. 28, he becomes a restricted free agent. However, the two sides can continue to negotiate after that.
Winslow, with his new high-profile agent Drew Rosenhaus by his side in Hawaii, said he'll let Rosenhaus handle any renegotiations. Winslow fired the Poston brothers last off-season and signed with Rosenhaus, who has been involved in some contentious re-dos, including one for receiver Terrell Owens.

What you dont want to give a big contract to a guy who tore his knee up, had microfracture surgery, and requires more this offseason.....Id lock him up longterm.

plus word is today that he is worried about his knees after all these surgeries via Fanball
The News
Kellen Winslow Jr is concerned his career might be shortened by repeated surgeries on his right knee, according to the Plain Dealer. In the article, reporter Tony Grossi speculates that Winslow wants a new contract because of the problematic right knee, which has been operated on four times during his four-year career.
Our View
Winslow missed 30 starts during the 2004 and 2005 seasons due to knee injuries. He has bounced back in during the past two campaigns to play in all 32 games, but is likely to have his knee scoped again in a few weeks.

I honestly think you guys are all off base.
Like he said, after he was hurt the re-did the deal and he went with it. Years later he has produced very well for 2 season and has played hurt as well. There's no question IMO that he is elite and he should be paid like one.
