Browns cornerback Kenny Wright was released from jail in Pearland, Texas, Friday night on $5,000 bond after getting charged with three misdemeanors, including possession of marijuana.
Browns spokesman Bill Bonsiewicz said the Browns "are withholding comment on the situation until we can gather more information." Depending on the outcome, Wright faces a possible suspension or fine from the NFL under the league's personal-conduct policy.
Pearland police spokesman Sgt. Roy Castillo told a television station in Texas that police were investigating a disturbance Thursday involving Wright and a female when Wright took off running. He was eventually caught in a nearby subdivision.
He faces a misdemeanor charge of unlawful restraint, a misdemeanor charge of evading arrest and a misdemeanor charge of possession of marijuana. He had 1.875 ounces of marijuana in his vehicle, according to the department's news release.
If found guilty, Wright faces up to one year in jail and a fine of up to $4,000 on the unlawful restraint charge, and up to 180 days in jail and a $2,000 fine on each of the other two charges.
Wright, a 10-year NFL veteran entering the second year of the three-year contract he signed with the Browns, played in seven games last season, was inactive for seven others and didn't play in two games for which he dressed. He made three tackles on defense and three on special teams.
