Yeah, there were several questionable calls or no calls down the stretch (missed block in the back on Austin's punt return TD, Jason Verrett PI on Bailey in OT, no PI call on throw to Cam White in OT, etc.) but I felt for the most part they did a better job officiating the game than some of the other ones I have seen. The fact is you can usually find a few calls each game where the officials may have made the wrong call.

The way I see it, if it's third down and you aren't trying for a first down, why not run it straight up the middle so the FG attempt can be made in the middle of the field. Both of our tries were made from the hash marks instead of dead middle of the field

Both teams had several chances to win the game and were not able to do it for various reasons. no question, the missed field goals did come back to haunt WV. It was learned that on the blocked field goal in OT that TCU saw something on film that led them to think they could get the block because of how the blocker lined up.
As for some of the WV coaching decisions on drawing up plays to the sides prior to the kick? My guess is that Holgerson is a more aggressive coach who doesn't really think in terms of what is best for the kicker and instead is trying to figure out the best way to get the first down. Basically, he is more of an aggressive, offensive coach looking to get more rather than settling or being risk-averse. In those instances, this backfired on him. On the other hand, I have seen kickers have the kick lined up in the middle for them only to have them shank it so who knows. I bet some kickers even prefer it on the hash rather than being dead on center so maybe that was in play here. Regardless, there are plenty of things one could second guess about both teams' strategies.
My guess is honeymoon may be over for Holgerson in WV but it may be that he just needs a couple of years to get his guys into the system so they can better perform the way he wants them too.
I am looking at the rest of WV's schedule and I think they should win at least 2 more games (Iowa State and Kansas). I also think they would have a good opportunity against Okie State as well. Oklahoma may be a bridge too far but I think you are still looking at 7 or 8 wins this season. Probably not what WV fans were hoping for but not too bad either for their first year in the Big12.
