I think Manziel won't win it this year only because he is a freshman. Possibly next year though! However at this point I think that if he does not win it, then this award is a joke. Nobody has put up numbers like Manziel has, AND he's a freshman!

As long as Manziel puts up decent numbers and Teo doesnt go ballistic, I really think Manziel wins it. There just isnt anybody else out there this year to really challenge him. I know Peterson and Walker had monster freshmen seasons and didnt win the award, but I dont think people are quite as old school in their mentality. The first 70 years it was always juniors and seniors, and then when Tebow won it as a Soph, the next two winners were Soph's. I hope Manziel wins it, just to break down that barrier. If Jarvis Jones hadnt been suspended for those couple games, I would say he should get it. When he is on, he is the best player in the country.

I think he will be able to put up some numbers on Mizzou's defense. No offense to Mizzou, but he has been up against better defenses.

As a WVU fan, I could care less if Geno won it or if anyone else does. I think the Heisman is a joke. It is nothing more than a popularity contest. You can look back thru my posts of the old Athlon days and you will see the same reply from me.
Look at the ESPN Heisman Watch. Marqise Lee is #4. Tavon Austin is nowhere on the list and Ka'Deem Carey is way down on the list. Keep in mind that Lee has played in an extra game over Austin. Austin is 2nd in all-purpose yards/game. He is is third in total yards but is only 8yds behind Lee and 300yds behind 1st (again Austin played in 11 games Lee played in 12). Lee has 15 total TDs, Austin has 16TDs. Let's look at Da'Deem Carey. He leads the nation in rushing yards, is 5th in total all-purpose yards and has 21TDs. Why isn't Austin and Carey getting as much love as Lee??? Because Lee plays for USC. You could say that USC has a better team than Zona or WVU, but Zona did beat USC and Carey had over 100yds rushing. Having a better team or being more popular should have no affect on the Heisman, but it does and that is why I have no use for the Heisman.

Fair enough, the heisman is a popularity contest most of the time.

I agree with this. Which is why if Manti Te'o wins the heisman, it will probably be for that reason. I mean don't get me wrong, he's a great player and will continue to be at the next level, but nobody this year has put up numbers like Manziel. I mean he broke SEC records as a freshman, if that doesn't stand out to you, then I don't know what does.

My problem with ?Johnny Football is that he made such a huge jump just b/c they beat Bama. If they lost and he still had those numbers he wouldn't be the favorite right now

A large contingent of voters absolutely will refuse to vote for Manziel because he is a freshman. This could actually be a close Heisman race. Luckily for Manziel there isn't a second person who is deserving. A lot of votes will be spread around between Teo, Klein, Miller and regionally you will get a few McCarron and Lee votes.
