As for WVU, I'm just happy we made a bowl game. Not so much for the bowl as much as the extra practices. Most everyone does not realize that WVU started 10 Frosh most of the season on defense (with 1 senior). For one game, the K-State game, WVU started 10 Frosh and a Soph. I know our boys played horrible on defense but when you put up 6 bodies just out of high school against the high powered offenses of the B12, it shouldn't suprise you as much as it does. We lose 2 of our top 11 tacklers but also return our 2 leading tacklers who are only True Frosh.
Offensively, you would think we would be hurting next year, but maybe not. Yes Geno Smith is gone, but we have a Soph in Millard who is supposed to be pretty good. We also have 2 other Soph QBs who are said to have very strong arms but I don't know much about them. Only time will tell on them. We also lose Tavon Austin. He's the type of player you can't replace and his loss will be felt. But at this point we do have Bailey returning (he's only a JR.). He very well could leave early but I don't think he does. Woods graduates but he only became our #3 WR because McCartney was injured. We have 4 true Frosh who played quite well this year behind Austin and Bailey (Clay, Thompson, Campbell, Myers). Those 4 could have big years ahead. RB is questionable, but we do return Buiey and Garrison. Garrison was the starter up until the season started when he was injured. He came back and played sparringly but it was obvious he wasn't back to himself. We have a couple other 3 star recruits, both big and strong and the smaller/faster types, who could step up and contribute. On the OL, we only lose 2 of our 5 starters and 2 backups. Losing Madsen at center will be big and of major concern.
All in all, I'm looking forward to what next season holds. We could have a very good team, or a team filled with mistakes like we did this year. I came into this past season with a 2nd or 3rd place finish in the B12. I think next year we will be 3rd or 4th. If our QB can play consistatnly we may have a chance at 2nd
