I'm surprised that there isn't a thread on this already. While Kent State is a distant #17 in the BCS rankings, with another UCLA loss to Stanford, the Golden Flashes might make it into the top-16 with a win over Northern Illinois. (NIU may make it into the top-16 with a win over Kent State.)

This scenario may push Oklahoma out of the BCS.




The MAC championship will be an exciting game between 11-1 teams. (Let's pretend each team didn't lose to a complete dog from a BCS conference.)

That's exactly why they shouldn't be anywhere near a BCS bowl. Kent St got destroyed by one of the worst teams ever in the SEC in (2-10) Kentucky 47-14. Who also is winless in conference. Northern Illnois lost to (4-8) Iowa. I would much rather watch OK or any AQ top 25 team in a BCS bowl than those two.

Let's not forget that Kent St. also beat probable-Big East Champ Rutgers on the road. They could actually deserve a spot moreso than the Big East Champ.

To me the Big East is not an AQ worthy conference.

I think everyone agrees that Kent State is nowhere near a top 10 team. That hasn't stopped Boise, TCU, Hawaii and Utah from going in years past. The little guy and the bulk of the fans have been crying for a decade now for the little guy to get into a big time bowl. So this is just the rediculousness that we have to live with. So those of you who have complained of the unfairness now have to live with wasting a good bowl on them. This does squeeze the Big XII out from sending two teams.

Luckily in the four team playoff we will never have to put up with a spot being wasted on these low level schools. But they still get their BCS spot, that guaranty was renewed (if top 16).

If the Big East, the ACC most years or the Big Ten this year deserve it, so does Kent State. I went to Kent State for a year and I'd be happy to see them play in a good bowl, but I don't think they'll beat Northern Illinois.

The real criminal here is the two team per conference cap and the auto tieins. When the six most deserving teams are all in one conference you will get anomalies like this. One benefit of the new system (6 bowls plus NCG) is that this year at least five and maybe six SEC teams would make a BCS game.

All of you have been crying for a playoff and are anti-SEC. Just wait. It will be SEC overload. You think you are suck of them now, this is nothing.

lol I've been saying that ever since this 4 team playoffs were announced. If it was this year 3/4 of the playoffs would be SEC teams.

I would rather see FL vs Boise to at least shut up Major Seahawk than a team that lost to Kentucky by 33.

Since we don't have a say in the result, we might as well watch the game as if it's the SEC championship -- it will be more entertaining than the Big Ten and Pac-12 championship combined times fifty.

One could argue that NIU/Kent is the second most important game this weekend behind the SECCG. Lou/Rut, FSU/GT, Neb/Wisc, and Stan/UCLA are all just games for a BCS appearance, the loser won't get in. None of those games have any impact on the NCG. This is one area where I think the four teamer will benefit the sport. Most years it will give us more games of importance the last weekend. This year is the exception because Fla and Org are both idle and would be the other two teams in.
