Dave Yost, Mizzou's OC for the last 5 or so years resigns. I take it as good news. I'm getting tired of the same old spread plays. Strategy was a big part of the problem this year. It just feels like time for him to go, so he either figured it himself or was pressured to resign. Mizzou has plenty of talent on the offense, I will be thrilled to see a whole new philosophy. They may paint this as bad news, but this was a necessary move.

I should give Yost credit. He was QB coach for Brad Smith and Chase Daniels. He's been OC since 2009 and boasted one of the most balanced offenses during that time. But his spread offense doesn't work in the SEC in much the same way that the Spread doesn't work in the NFL. Not that the SEC defenses are as good as the NFL, but they are the best in CFB. Speedy defenders cover the spread successfully. Yost was the right man for the Big 12, not the SEC. I was just thinking the other day that their has to be some kind of shakeup in the coaching regime at Mizzou. Yost resigning is just what the DR ordered. I wonder what style of offense we will run next year.

The spread doesn't work in the SEC? The 2006 and 2008 Florida Gators probably don't agree with you. The spread works when you have the right personnel to run it. Also, variations of the spread have been used in the NFL since the 80s and currently.

Yeah I should clarify, Missouri's spread doesn't work in the SEC. The offense was abysmal this year despite a lot of talented offensive players. The coaching was terrible this year at Missouri. I think Pinkel is an average coach, and less than average for the SEC. But if he can adjust, he will be back to being a good coach again.

I really don't think Auburn's NC will stand, I think it gets stripped away in a few years. They are under investigation. They will get to keep their AP NC, like USC.

The spread can work in any conference, but you have to have all the pieces. One of the biggest pieces everyone seems to forget about is the coach. You hear all the time about the QB, RB, OL but you rarely hear anyone say anything about the coach. Not every coach can effectively run a spread offense.
