Default Bye Bye Big East

The only thing holding the BE together was their basketball conference. With all the non-football teams leaving the BE, future BE teams withdrawing, and current BE teams leaving, I believe this is the beginning of the end for the BE. Its only time now

I tried to defend the BE with everything I had, and I think I had some good points when I defended them....but it wasn't something I could do on a yearly basis. WVU pretty much kept them alive for several years and when they slacked off nobody really stood up to take their place. They needed at least 2 dominate teams for them to keep their BCS, that eventually just having one would cause them to lose it.

But yeah, I'm happy to be out of there. The BE Commish that just quite was horrible and probably the biggest reason the football conference fell apart. Football brings in the most money but it was the basketball schools (and ND) that put Commish put in charge of expansion....and everythin else

Think any chance of the leftoverture in the BE + CUSA merger to salvage remaining sports programs?...

They might as well since they are on the same level. Plus many former CUSA teams joined the BIG East anyway.

That is what I was thinking... Parity will reach them in a decade or two but better to make a little money, rather than to financially struggle in oblivion...

Should try to structure talks with leftoverture of the MAC as well!...

All that jumping has affected those three anyways...

This new structure would help sustain financial capital and recruiting for continued growth in CFB and all of their remaining sports...

First post here.

The split with the catholic non football teams gives the BE a chance to truly rebrand. It honestly may be the only thing that can save a once proud football conference. Give the catholic schools the name. Take the money from all the exit fees and invest it in marketing in NY. The big east has the greatest market to exploit in all of sports and entertainment. That is a major advantage. Next skip the bcs next yr. have your champion represent the conference in the pinstripe bowl but get with the bowl committee and attempt to rebrand it as the big apple bowl. Big east champ vs invitation school. Make an initial huge nutt of money invite to a school with a large following that travels well(Texas, Michigan, Michigan st, I used to suggest Norte dame but that ship sailed to Florida for the next five yrs). Promote that game like a sonofagun. During this game pay for a two minute block commercial that showcases all sports, lead with football and basketball. Stop adding western teams. Travel is expensive and little payoff comes from less than a thousand traveling Boise fans than 15,000 temple or UCONN fans going to jersey. Last, steal a team from the ACC. If all thee above is done your new TV $ will be attractive to an ACC school. Sell an annual MSG bb game vs UCONN and I think you can get a second tier ACC school. Before the announcement came of them in the B1G, I used to say Maryland would be a great one. Now that isn't likely.

Do all of this and you are still relevant.
