What in the hell makes USC a shoe-in for the Championship game? You people always argue about "Conference this" and "SOS that." The pac-10 has jack **** on the SEC. JACK ****.
So inform me as to why they are considered godly. I'm so uninformed I don't even know if Mike Williams is still playing there.

The Pac 10 has very good teams, but not as good as the SEC. Cal is the best 1 loss team, and USC gave them that loss. USC has also won so many games convincingly. I hope ND ruins their NC dreams.

The Pac-10 has an elite team, a great team, a good team, an alright team, and a bunch of pushovers.
The SEC has a few elite teams, a few great teams, a few good teams, and VERY few alright teams.

They won the NC last year and are still undefeated. It's kind of like all the people rating the Patriots so high in the power rankings this season despite the fact that Philly was playing better football....they're the reigning champs, they're undefeated, give em the nod.
Also, the SEC only has one elite team, and a couple of arguably "great" teams. It's still a better conference than the Pac-10, but it's not alarmingly better.

Who are the SEC elite teams? Auburn and......?
If Cal isn't an elite team?...then who the hell in the SEC is considered an elite team besides Auburn?
The Pac has two elite teams in USC and Cal, a good team in ASU, and three "alright" teams in UCLA, Oregon State, and Oregon....any of which could hang with whatever great or good team you want to match them up against....we have two pushover teams in Washington and Arizona....the rest...Washinton State and Stanford can put up a good fight....
The biggest reason USC is a shoe-in is because they're defending National Champs....and excluding the Cal Triple OT loss last year, they haven't lost a game since October of 2002....I think that's right.
They've played a tougher schedule than OU as well....

Pac 10
Elite - USC
Great - Cal
Good - ASU, UCLA, Oregon, OSU
Bolt, I apologize if I missed someone. I put ASU in as "Good" because they got their asses handed to them by the top teams in the league. To be great, I think you have to at least stay within a few scores....and have a chance to win....at some point.
SEC
Elite - Auburn
Great - None
Good - UGA, Tennesee, LSU, South Carolina, Florida, Alabama
I say no "great" teams because UGA couldn't hang with Auburn...they had some shots, but couldn't capitalize. I was very tempted to classify UGA as "great", but with the criteria I gave ASU, I couldn't do it. Auburn is elite, but scheduling the Citadel could keep them out of the NC. Georgia, Tennessee, and LSU have the talent to beat anyone. South Carolina, unless they are playing Florida, has played very competitive ball. Florida has an incredible offense. Alabama has a great defense.
I think that the SEC has more overall good to elite teams in total, but I think the Pac-10 is better at the top.
Fair nuff?

Sounds good to me....I was just confused with DBo's post about the SEC having two "elite" teams, and the Pac having one....when USC is #1, and Cal is predominantly ranked the #4 team in the nation, and best 1 loss team....
I think the SEC is a deeper conference, but like you said....I think the Pac is a little stronger on top...I look at the ACC the same way....

So is Cal not "great" because they lost to USC?

I think Cal is "elite-great"....depending on what one classifies "elite"....Top 5="elite"?

Elite is a team that could, in the right circumstances, compete with a top team. Cal is Elite/Great... hard to say about them. Almost beat USC, the #1 team in the country.
This argument is old. The Pac-10 is a weaker conference than the SEC. And the Big 12. SEC is the hardest, by far. I don't understand how this is even a topic of debate.
