Kehoe one of four Hurricanes assistants firedESPN.com news services
Quote:
CORAL GABLES, Fla. -- Miami fired four assistant coaches Monday, three days after the Hurricanes' season ended with a humbling 40-3 loss to LSU in the Peach Bowl -- the biggest bowl defeat in the program's history.
Offensive line coach Art Kehoe, who coached on all five of the school's national championship teams, was fired, along with offensive coordinator Dan Werner, linebackers coach Vernon Hargreaves and running backs coach Don Soldinger.
"The decision was mine. Mine alone," said coach Larry Coker, who added the Peach Bowl results wasn't the only reason for the dismissals.
"For me, it's definitely personally a very tough decision," Coker said. "But it's a decision I think had to be made. ... We have high standards here, high standards are set and I think we have to work hard to live up to those standards."
Miami was 9-3 this season and is 53-9 over Coker's first five seasons as the Hurricanes' head coach.
Kehoe was also the team's assistant head coach.
"I got fired. I wish I didn't, but I did," Kehoe, who also coached the offensive line, told the Miami Herald. "I have to move on with my life and take care of my family now.
"I am eternally grateful to the University of Miami for giving me one of the greatest lives you could ever have in college football. We won more games, more national titles, more bowl games, more big games. When you think about it, I owe everything to this school," he said.
Soldinger, who also served as Miami's special teams coordinator, said he was told of his dismissal Monday morning by Coker, who said he wouldn't specify why the firings were taking place.
"If he can find somebody better, more power to him," said Soldinger, 61, who was at Miami from 1984-88 and again from 1995 through Monday. "Maybe he'll find younger. He won't find anybody better."
Information from The Associated Press was used in this report.

My guess would be that Coker did not make these moves without internal pressure from the athletic department. Probably his seat is getting warm and he had to make some changes to save his own neck.

It's all gone downhill since Butch Davis' recruits went to the NFL. Just look at their record's since the national championship season in 2001. (Coker's first year)

Man, with the probability of Billy Sexton retiring as RB coach at FSU at the end of the season, i'd love to get Don Soldinger to replace him. He's developed some great RB's at UM and can recruit the hell out of South Florida.

Nobody thought this years Miami team could knock off USC. The 2001 team sure would have.
