ESPN is reporting that current Denver Broncos tight end coach Tim Brewster will be named the 26th coach of the Minnesota Golden Gophers. The University is denying that anyone has been offered the job, but it is expected that Brewster could officially be named at the head coach with in the next 24 hours.
Brewster has extensive coaching experience at both the professional and collegiate level. He has been the tight ends coach with the Broncos since 2005 and held the same position along with the title of assistant head coach for the San Diego Chargers from 2002-2004.
Prior to taking his job with the Chargers Brewster spent 13 years with Mack Brown at both North Carolina and Texas. He coached both tight ends and special teams for Brown. He was also the recruiting coordinator at both schools. He is credited with recruiting both Chris Sims and Vince Young to the Longhorns.
During his collegiate coaching career Brewster helped to develop five tight ends that ended up playing in the NFL. The most notable is current Atlanta Falcon Alge Crumpler.
Brewster played collegially at Illinois in the mid 1980's. He led the nation in receiving for tight ends in 1983.
He as a finalist for the open Illinois job before Ron Zook took the position prior to the 2005 season.
Brewster is married and has three sons. His middle son, Clint, is an Illinois recruit and currently ranked the 15th best pro-style quarterback according to Rivals.com. [/b]
