Romo Will Rise
SI.com - Writers - Tim Layden: Romo's work ethic will help him overcome bobble - Tuesday January 9, 2007 3:13PM
Quote:
That stuff Tony Romo was saying Saturday night about how it's going to take him a long time to get over The Bobble? He's right. It's going to take him a long time. Not just because it was a colossal, historic mistake on a huge stage, and not just because of the inescapable irony involved when a star rises so swiftly and falls so tragically. Although, come to think of it, those are plenty good reasons.
Romo will suffer mightily because he's Romo. I won't claim to know Romo well. I know him like a writer knows a subject with whom he's spent some quality time. Back in November, as Romo-mania was approaching its peak (when American cared whether Rome was dating Jessica Simpson or Carrie Underwood), I spent a few days in Dallas reporting a Romo story for Sports Illustrated. We had a meal together, talked a couple of times on the phone, chatted after two games. It was enough to give me something less than a portrait, but more than a snapshot.
Romo will hurt because he cares. On a midweek evening in north Dallas, we sat across a wooden table in a nondescript mall cafeteria restaurant. Romo detailed his climb from high school to NFL starter. This part was not unusual, but what was unusual was the passion with which Romo told the story.
This is a guy who dragged college roommates out into the parking lots at Eastern Illinois and made them catch passes under the streetlights. This is a guy who, in his first three years with the Cowboys, would go back to the practice bubble and throw into the netting beyond the goalposts. Why? Because he wanted to throw a perfect spiral. Every time. He said it took him until the middle of his third year with the Cowboys before he felt like he could pick up a football, grip and throw a spiral without thinking about it. "You can be 10 times more effective if you can just throw a spiral in all conditions,'' Romo said.

He will be A OK for next year
If the Boys can improve their pass protection this offseason, that will release Fasano off the line more and give Romo another saftey valve. Fasano is a good playmaker, bieng able to get him more involed in the passing game will make Romo much better

Starts right there, they have to improve the line, a must.

I think Romo will be good next year, not like what -primetime- thinks but good, but he needs to be consistent all year which will either push him ahead or pull him behind.

There are so many factors that enfluence a Player's overall quality. I won't list them but one that stand out for me is how a Player handles pressure. There were a few maistakes in their last game and it's unfortunate that the only mistake we hear or read about is the Snap Bobble.
I think it was great that he thought to grab the ball and make it for the EndZone but to critical elements happened that caused him not to make it.
1. He was slower than his Persuer and some of that may have been Romo not taking a glance back to see who might be on his tail.
2. Now this is the only time you will see me give Vanderjagt any props. The Defender that tackled Romo could have been effectively slowed down had Gramatica simply blocked him. But Gramatica is a tiny little guy who is probably a tad fearful of contact in that manner. So instaed of him even getting in the way, Gramatica chose to step aside and allow a clear path to Romo. I mention Vanderjerk because I truly believe he would have done a much better job protecting Romo during his Mad Dash.
Which mistake was more critical?
Well placing your personal health in front of the Team's need for a Victory could be frowned upon by many. I've never looked at the Bobble as a mistake that should have resulted in Romo's abilities as QB1 to take a dive. He flubbed the snap and immediately did the right thing, went for the win.
I simply criticize Romo in that scenario for not peeking back just a little, because if he had, he might have dine the Deon Sander's High Step just enough to break the plane of the Goal Line.
As for what Tony needs for next year, yet another Receiver complaining for more involvement? Whatever presonal issues occurred in the Lockroom needs to get fixed bcuz here's a guy who went to Owens 60% of the time in the beginning to maybe 40% towrds the end of their Season. Something wet down between Ownes and whomever and since Ownes is sticking around, that needs to get fixed. What Romo needs is for a better Head Coach .. solely imo
