Irvin and the HOF
Does anyone think he will make it next year? I know there was a lot of debate about his "merits", especially from anti-cowboy types (often citing stats). But as a person who saw pretty much every game he played i believe he is a lock to get in (not a lock when though) People dont reaize that If he had played for another team like GB or SF for instance, he would have caught about 100 every year.

in terms of numbers he is right there on the cusp, if he makes it and monk is still out, that is BS to me. Monk's numbers dwarf irvins and monk has championships. So I'm not sure that irvin did enough to be enshrined. His numbers are not near as good as jimmy smith and people are questioning him. I know he has the rings, but so does monk and he is out.

One thing I look at is if you would ever call themone of the best of their time. There was a span of about 5 years there that if Irvin was not #1 he was #2. I do not know if you could ever say that about Monk. It was not like he was the first guy to push off he was just the best at it.

During that span, I would put irvin behind cris carter and jerry rice at least, I would even put sterling sharpe ahead of him for the receptions and TD's that guy caught. I would put him in the class of herman moore around that time. and between 84-89 Monk was certainly one of the best. I am not a redskins fan, but monk was right up there during that time period. During that span the only ones better were Rice and Ellard.

You almost make it sound like it should be one of is many fine attributes in considering his entry . as I already stated he'll get in.

I liked Sterling Sharpe and Herman Moore and all but their #'s were very deceiving compared to Irvin who in his time was right there with Rice and Carter IMO.

When looking at irvin you cant judge by stats. With any other team Irvin would have had alot more catches, yards, and tds. You have to measure his impact. Other than Novachec(sp) they rarely had a good threat outside him(K.Williams,Harper?) Look at when Irvin got suspended, and Dion was their primary reciever, their offence was an embarassment.

Micheal Irivins numbers might not have been the best but if you look at what he brought to his team and his playmaking ability he was definitly one of the best recievers of the 90's,.. he was a huge threat to any team he faced and should make the hall of fame for sure..
