Gotta love Spags, always seems to slap to Koolaide out of peoples mouths without looking like a cynic

With Jones, I think this is the time of year people dig for a story. Right now Im not putting to much into him missing the teams workout.

Some points of interest

Quote:
Brandyn Small, Austin, Texas: With Paul Oliver (Georgia Bulldogs) entering the supplemental draft, do you think the Cowboys would have any interest in looking at him? He was slated as a potential first-rounder next year, and I see a lot of upside in him. With two first-round picks next year, any thoughts of dealing early?

Mickey: Not if it takes a first-round pick to get this guy. A whole lot of you have been asking about him. I'm not sure what it will take to bag him, but me, if I've got two first-round picks, and one of them might be pretty high if Cleveland struggles, as many are suggesting, I am doing nothing to ruin my leverage in the draft. Two first-round picks are huge, especially if you only need one thing. You have the firepower to get the best, be it a running back or maybe even a quarterback, if need be. Not sure I'd use more than a third on the guy. I think it would have to be a quarterback before I'd use a first in the supplemental draft.
I agree with Spags here, in fact, I would go lower after Oliver was ti8med. I wouldnt give up a day 1 pick for him right now, but he would be a steal for a 4th. Now Jared Gaither on the other hand, I would give up a #1

Quote:
Frank Rhea, King of Prussia, Pa.: I just read your article on the '06 defense, and I can't help but remember what the Lions' Roy Williams said after that game: "All we did was what the Saints did because we knew that Dallas doesn't make adjustments." I think that sums up what happened last year. Don't you think that everyone figured out Bill Parcells didn't make game-to-game defensive adjustments and once exposed, if you don't get dressed again, you stay naked?

Mickey: Cute, but evidently that seems to be what many of the players were suggesting. It wasn't until maybe that Detroit game, and then again in the playoff game, that I saw the Cowboys using Nate Jones on the nickel, playing basically two corners in the slots and just one linebacker. In fact, even at times, Jones was dropping off on one side as Roy Williams was coming up on the other to disguise the scheme. But until then, and let's not blame Mike Zimmer for this - he was just following instructions from the head guy - the Cowboys didn't seem to adjust much to cover their exposed defensive weaknesses.
Notice that the D looked infinatly better in the Seattle game than the prior 4 games

Quote:
Lou Prada, Honolulu: All right, all right . . . I don't know that I've been overly concerned with how Jason Garrett will perform as the offensive coordinator. However, I was a little taken aback when he was brought in; not because he's unproven as a coordinator, nor that he has red hair, but simply because I remember reading some of your articles around the huge debate on whether to hire Wade Phillips or Norv Turner. I'm fairly certain it was you who wrote (and convinced me) that Wade would be a better fit, not only because he's got the great defensive mindset (and background), but also because under Bill Parcells, Tony Sparano was calling a good part of the offensive plays . . . and could certainly do more since the offense seems to be further along than the defense, thus allowing Wade to focus more on defense, etc. Is Sparano still with the Boys? If so, what's his role?

Mickey: Boy, you guys don't forget a thing. Yes, Sparano still is with the Cowboys. He officially is the assistant head coach and also the offensive line coach. Unofficially, he has combined with Garrett to help draw up this team's offense. Garrett readily will tell you how they are incorporating into this offense a lot of the plays and concepts Sparano used quite successfully last year and how much he relies on Sparano for advice. It's a great comfort for Garrett to have the experience of a Sparano around, not to mention that of quarterbacks coach Wade Wilson, who played this game for 19 years in the NFL, and receivers coach Ray Sherman, who has been an NFL offensive coordinator for three teams during his coaching career.
Sparano presence puts me at ease with Garretts inexpirience. Garrett is in a great situation for his first OC gig because of the coaches around him. Sparano was a instrumental part of the offence last year. Sherman is one of the better WR coaches in the league, and we have some young guys with great measurables like Stanback and Austin, they both just need proper coaching
