Let's hear your thoughts and give me an argument for your guys. It's a great day, let's enjoy it!
Here is my short list in order of most likely to happen.
FRONT RUNNERS:
1. Norv Turner- Turner is the most logical and most likely choice to take over as a coach for the Cowboys. Norv is a icon of sorts in Dallas and the closest tie to the Jimmy Johnson era the Cowboys are going to get. Jones has gone on record saying he will look for someone who can develop Tony Romo and you can't get a bigger endorsment then Troy Aikman who credits Turner with making him who he was. Speaking of Aikman, there is not a player Jerry listens to more even turning to him for advice before he hired Parcells. Most people will look at Turners record as a head coach and turn up their nose but you can't forget where he coached and what he had to deal with. As a cordinator Turner has turned around some of the poorest offenses in the league and most recently worked his magiv with the 49ers and Alex Smith. If you need anymore support, don't forget Turner will be at the Senior Bowl this week as will Jerry. It just so happens Jerry will have a friend along for the ride, no other then Troy Aikman. The other attractive part of hiring Turner for Jerry will be the fact he will come cheap by NFL standards.
2. Wade Phillips- There may not be another coach in the league Jerry respects more then Phillips. Jerry has said time again that he wants to stay with the 3-4 and it will be an important factor in his decision. It's hard not to get excited thinking of what Phillips could do with the young defense in Dallas. Many around the league say Wade is a better head coach then his record says. He has worked with limited talent in his stints as a head coach and comes highly reccomended by many GM's around the league. People close to Jerry say Wade was the 1st name out of his mouth when asked about Bills replacment. Phillips is a little older then Jerry would like but in a perfect world Jerry could see Wade taking over for 2 or 3 years until Stoops or Weis are ready to make the jump to the NFL. Another possibility is bringing in Phillips and luring Jason Garrett in as OC who is a up and coming hot name and close friend of Phillips in hopes of grooming him to take over 3 or 4 years from now.
3. Mike Sherman- As I stated with Turner, Jones is looking for a QB guy. Favre is a big supporter of Sherman, Jones is a big fan of Favre. Jones also likes Sherman knowledge of college prospects and history in a NFL front office. Sherman has an attactive record as head coach (53-27) over five years and his a proven winner. His ability to work with QB and history with Favre which so many compare Romo to could be real attractive for Jones. Sherman will also come fairly cheap and has a fire to prove himself again as a heac coach. A fire Jones is looking for.
nice post SDOGO. i wouldn't mind seeing turner as the HC.
plse dont say stoops, or any other college coach for that. nfl is a totally different game and don't thing JJ would be willing to stick around for that learning curve.

There are very few college coaches I would like to see take over this team. Obviously Weis is the most ready but it would cost a small fortune every Jerry would not be willing to spend to lure him out of ND in the next 3 years. Stoops and Jerry are very close friends and while the move would not surprise me, I don't feel Jerry thinks he is the best man for the job right now. A coach to keep an eye on and one that I'm not that thrilled about is Nutt from Arkansas. You don't have to look long to see the conections there.
If this search drags on past this week and into next week start keeping an eye out for Ron Rivera. Rooney and Jones are close and had the Bears lost Rivera would be the had coach of the Steelers and not Tomlin. The only reason Jones would not have this process done this week is because he is waiting for Ron and the Bears to play the SB.

Sad Sad Day for me.
My choices would be...
1. Rex Ryan
2. Norv Turner
Jury still out from there on. [/b]
I said before my first choice would be Rex Ryan but the drawback there is Parcells timing on this. Putting together a staff will be difficult. Ryan has not built that tree yet and he would need a offensive mind to help him run things. 2 or 3 weeks ago I would say this would be brilliant but now I think it would a 2 year process just to get a staff into place.

Mike ****IN' Sherman!!!!OH GOD!!!! [/b]
Unless Jery hires Turner or a young assistant like Singeltary, Rivera or Ryan that's the type of name were going to see. Someone he can bring in cheap and develop assistants under.
