I'm starting work on my first 2008 draft value board. As I do every year at this time I also like to start laying down my mocks and projected Cowboys picks. I'm not ready to release my mock yet but would like to share my 7 round Cowboys projection with my fellow Cowboys fans. As always, I encourage all feedback.
Round 1
Pick #15 (from Clev)- Mike Jenkins, CB, South Florida
Newman and Henry and no spring chickens and the depth at CB or lack off has been front and center while both Newman and Henry have battled injuries at one time or another this season. It's hard to fathom with so much money being spent on the defensive side of the ball that Dallas would continue to look that way in the 1st round but glaring issues continue to pop-up. Jenkins may just be the best CB prospect in the nation that no one knows about outside of the scouting community. Many among NFL offices believe Jenkins has all the tools and is on his way to a big pay day come April.
Pick #30 - Early Doucet, WR, LSU
Just like the CB's, the Cowboys WR's are not exactly rookies. While productive one has to wonder how many more years the Owens journey will last. In week if 2008 it's unknown if Terry Glenn will take the field in a Cowboys uniform this year or ever again. Patrick Crayton has been good but he will never be more then a very productive 3rd WR or below average 2nd. None of the other youngsters who have shown promise have done anything on the field.
Round 2
Pick #59 - Allen Patrick, RB, Oklahoma
Both Marion Barber and Julius Jones are with out a contract beyond this year. Barber will be back, Jones will not. While it's reasonable to think Barber will just line up and take over it's not very likely. Some players just excel is some roles. Barber is that type of player. Dallas has no intention of entering 08' with just 1 back. If Rice is avaliable in round 1 they may just look that way earlier. Patrick may be one of the most underrated back in college football.
Round 3
Pick #92 - Heath Benedict, OT, Newberry
It may raise some eyebrows after drafting both James Martin and Doug Free last year and having Pat McQuistan in the fold that Dallas is so high on but truth be told, the OL has been a area of weekness for many years. Dallas would love nothing more then to move McQuistan inside to Guard to eventually replace Kosier. Adams is on the down side of his career and one has to wonder how much more he has left in the tank. You can never have to many good young OL and Benedict will become a name to watch come April.
Round 4
Pick #134 - B.J. Raji, NT, Boston College
Cowboys fans can stop yelling. It took 4 rounds but Dallas finally addressed the NT position. Jason Ferguson has been nice but not what Phillips and his agressive defense needs. Tank Johnson will be a welcome addition but he's not your protypical NT and will probably only see 1 year in a Cowboys uniform. Behind them is a bunch of journeymen who on most teams would be welcome depth, not starters. Raji is a huge body with a mean streak who offers more then a plug in the middle. For a big guy he really has the ability to get in the opposing backfield.
Round 5
Pick #162 - Josh Johnson, QB, San Diego
No I'm not saying Romo will be not be back nor am I saying that he is not the answer but if something should happen we know Brad Johnson is neither of those. Dallas has not been able to groom young QB's for as long most of us can remember. Year after year Cowboys fans sort of expect this only for it to never happen. Now that everyone ahs forgotten it will happen. As for Johnson. The kids has loads of potential and his name is making it's way across the desk of more thena few front offices. You want stats. Check out the numbers.

Round 6
Pick #195 - Marcus Richardson, OLB, Troy
Ellis is playing his last year in Dallas. Sure they have Spencer waiting in the wings but after that.....uh.......yeah. As crazy as it seems, this team is not as deep at LB as you may first think. Richardson has a boat load of pontential and let's face it, Dallas has good luck with players from Troy..........well they have.
Round 7
Pick #227 - Chris Johnson, RB, East Carolina
Speed, Speed, Speed and depth at RB. Not to mention how nice it would be to finally have a threat in the return game. This guy can do it all. He would fill in great as a 3rd down back, scat back, split out wide (has great hands), punt returner, kick returner and is an ace on kick coverage.
