NFL fines Cowboys receiver for violating equipment rules

IRVING – Wide receiver Terrell Owens was fined $10,000 Thursday for violating NFL uniform and equipment rules.

Sunday night at Philadelphia, Owens waved a personalized towel on the sideline that was picked up by television cameras.

Owens has said the league just doesn't know how to relax and sometimes takes the fun out of the game.

"It's stuff like that," Owens said. "People try to make a big deal out of it. It's not any different than Chad [Johnson] going to the sidelines and taking [out] a coat. All I had was a little towel, and now they want to make that into a big deal."

Earlier this season, Johnson was fined $10,000 for wearing a specialized blazer on the sidelines that read "Future H.O.F. 20??"

On the field, Owens is on pace to catch 88 passes for 1,460 yards and 12 touchdowns. Owens is tied for fifth in receiving yards in the NFL with 730 yards.

"Every game I feel like I'm able to take over games," Owens said.

Ya Know I hate to admit it but TO has a point. There's something going on in the game today that is getting out of control. I witness the replays on the holding calls for instance and I gotta say, most are absolutely ridiculous. I'm in agreement with many of the unnecessary fouls that could result in career ending injuries. Sure impose penalties & fines depending on the severity but waving a towel ??? I'd like to know who it offended. The Refs are taking the fun out of the game as TO said and he's right about that. Ok, I'm not a big supporter of the antics that occur after TD's from many of the Players. I realize to celebrate a TD is appropriate since TD's aren't easy to come by but some of the guys are really taking it too far. Pretty soon, slamming the ball to the ground will be a penalty or fine the way things are going.

There again, it is my understanding the Refs impose the rules that the Franchise Team Owners agree to. So who's the real culprit here? Obviously the $10k isn't a big deal and it's the Leagues way of getting more money from the very people who are responsible in making money for the League. The Players Union needs to take a serious look at what is being done to these guys. Who is representing them anyway? If professional Football Players have a Union, then I'd suggest that Union isn't very good. You can't look at the salaries they make and say, well the Union is responsible for it because it's the Player's Agent that negotiates those deals.
