Default Darkhorse players for 2008

Offence-

WR Miles Austin- The other highly talented former UDFA WR in the NFC East. Austin is big, fast, agile and runs good routes, he just cant hold onto the ball right now. If he works hard this offseason, he has a slot at WR plain and simple. If he displayes better hands in TC and preseason, Crayton is back in the slot and Austin is starting. Sam Hurd is dead to me. If Hurd is manning the slot again next year, Austin's gonna be dead to me too.

G Pat McQuistan- Kyle Koiser is a solid lineman. But he is slightly above average, and is suited more to the ZB scheme that Sparano ran. McQuistan is much more of a physical presence and could challenge for the LG job in HH's man to man blocking scheme

Defence-

Jason Hatcher. Not likley to be a starter this season, but I wouldnt be shocked. Probobly the most skilled guy we have on the DL. The 300 pounder pick can rush the passer as as a stand up LBer, play DT in 4 man lines, and DE in the 3-4. Once he holds up consistanly against the run, he starts. He is a guy I expect the coaching staff to get creative with this year

Anthony Spencer. Same with Spencer. Spencer had a good rookie year, it just didnt show up in the sack column. When he was starting in place of Ellis he did a very good job of getting pressure, and improved greatly on his run D after a poor preseason there. The coaching staff needs to get him on the field more

I have not turned my back on Hurd just yet. Last year I kept reading how Dallas was thinking that one of these guys could make the jump to become a starter but after last season I have not heard anything like that since. I would not be surprised to see one of them cut or traded before the season starts.

I have heard it will be a battle to see who will start at LG. Martin, Free and McQuistan all want the job it is just a matter of who can take it from him. I would not be surprised to see Kosier in a Dolphins uni soon maybe a draft day deal.

I know you are high on Hatcher I just think that if Spears does not come around this year and play with a little more fire they will likely move ratliff over before they would start Hatcher.

Spencer still has a lot to prove to me, I did take it as a good sign that they were trying to find ways to get him on the field late in the season but it is still a long ways away from replacing Ellis.

Hatcher and Spencer wont be starters. Hatcher still has to improve playing the run consistantly. Im in favor of trading Spears and moving Ratliff over, I think Hatcher is the reason Canty wont get a long term deal. I can see canty walking after next season with Hatcher taking his spot.

As for Hurd, I was completely underwhelmed with him ast year. Austin got some consistant playin time the last quarter of the season and showed that he has the skil to be a starting WR, he just needs to improve his hands. Jones has said this offseason its unlikley we draft a WR in the first because he likes the young gys we have, mainly Stanback

How about pat watkins he could very easly be starting by the end of the year in roy's place. he has good ballhawking skills and is devoloping very well. also he has to step up on special teams to replace the lost of keith davis.

Tank Johnson also could have a huge year. he gets to start the season at week 1 and will be able to learn the defence better going through training camp and also will be in better shape than he was last year. he was just thrown onto the field last year this year he will be ready to play.

i'm hoping we trade roy in the pacman trade or another trade and let watkins start hes much better than roy is. roy had no tackels for a loss or a sack last year. he had 3 picks but 2 came in the first three weeks. only thing he did was tackle when he wasnt getting ran over buy small running backs.

Agreed, ive heard some of the players talk about him being a beast this season, with a full off season.
