When the Cowboys signed Ken Hamlin last season I was a little skeptical about just how good he could be as a Free Safety who would be the 'QB of the defense' for Wade Phillips. By the time the season was over I was not only sold on him being a serious upgrade at the position, but I was happy to hear he was going to the Pro Bowl and hoping Jerry Jones would offer him a long term contract at some point.

Hamlin was on NFL Sirius Radio today, here's his entire 13 minute interview..

Jerry is going to make sure that Hamlin gets his deal because last season was the first time since Darren Woodson left that the Cowboys had a Free Safety who helped the team win games. Wade has his 'QB' so that's another big issue and hopefully he's even better this season after a year in the system.

I completely expected him to be positive in this interview about Roy Williams being able to come into this season and play well, but it was interesting to hear him, in not so many words, say that Roy talked to him about the criticism last year. He also tried to help out Roy's cause by saying that another year in Wade's defense should help him in 2008.

After having Woody there for so long I think Cowboys Nation got spoiled, but it's nice to have a guy at Free Safety who isn't the weak link anymore.
