Default Pacman to call the commish

News tips Pacman Jones moved to Dallas late last week, so all that's left now is to get himself admittance to Valley Ranch. And he's hoping that can happen shortly.

Jones plans on calling the commissioner early this week to seek permission to work out with the team and participate in OTAs, which begin on Tuesday.

"I still have to go through the process, and I'm just waiting, waiting every day," Jones said. "I'm ready to get in there and learn the defense. And I've been out of the game for a year, so I need to shake off all the rust to get ready to play. ... I'm going to put in a call to the commissioner some time soon and hope he at least lets me work out with the team."

He said the moving process is still ongoing, but that he's in town permanently now and has been working out on his own to prepare for the 2008 season.

"I should be settled in, in the next week," he said. "I'm just happy to be here and hopefully I can get around my new teammates and start doing OTAs and working out with them."

As for his relationship with Roger Goodell, who will be the one making the final decision at a time of his own discretion, Jones said: "I'm trying to make sure I do everything he asked me to do, make sure my name stays out of the headlines." We're going to bring you more Pacman -- who's a heck of a bowler, by the way -- here in a bit.

The question I posed Pacman Jones was simple -- Why should people believe that you can be trusted? His answer ...

"I'm on my last straw, plain and simple," Jones said. "There's nothing else. If I mess up, it is what it is. I know that. The group of people I have around me knows that. Jerry knows that, and I looked him in his eyes and told him I won't let him down, and that's the main reason I think I'm here."

In the "three or four days" since relocating to the Dallas area, Jones says he's felt accepted by teammates and, as we posted a moment ago, is ready to join the team whenever the league allows it. Tonight, he got a chance to be around quite a few Cowboys at the Score Foundation All-Star Bowl 2008 at Bowl USA in Dallas, which was hosted by Jason Witten.

"It feels really good to be here with your new teammates and feel the vibe and be around them and let them see the real Pacman, so they don't have to go by what they heard. I feel good, man, I'm enjoying myself," Jones said.

"Pretty much, I've felt accepted," he continued. "There are going to be a couple guys that don't want me to let them down, but it's all on me. I've got everything in place so if I let anybody down, it's all on me and that's not my plan."

One thing that was noticeable at the event was that early on, Pacman and Tank Johnson were inseperable. And Jones confirmed that, yes, Johnson -- who was in a similar circumstance last year -- has been helpful.

"Tank has helped me," Jones said. "He's been through a lot of the things I've been through, as far as the new policy."
