Scott Noll of the Dallas Morning News reports it appears that Cowboys cornerback Mike Jenkins has been given the starting right cornerback position over Orlando Scandrick entering training camp. At least that what Jenkins is saying on his blog.
"Heading into training camp I'm the starter at right cornerback, and my job is to maintain that position. I'm back in Florida training at IMG to get my body right, get my head right, be mentally ready heading into the season. ...
It's my job to lose, but there's a guy behind me with nothing to lose. If he makes a mistake, it's not going to cause him to lose his job. If I make a mistake, the coaches are going to take a long, hard look at me in that position."
I have no problem with him saying this at all. Even if it isn't entirely true, you like your players to be confident and have a swagger about them. Also, I really believe that Scandrick is a great option as a fill in corner and his versatility can really help this team a lot in different passing situations.
He was a 1st rounder, he better be thinking this way. He learned the ropes last year playing in nickel and dime packages even on rare occasion the number 2 cb. It's now or never for him as a Cowboy IMO. CBs are only as fast as they are going to get in their mid 20s so he's going to be wasting good years if he's not ready to take on opposing no. 2 WRs.
