Broncos cornerback Williams killed in drive-by shooting

DENVER -- Denver Broncos cornerback Darrent Williams was shot and killed in a drive-by shooting in downtown Denver early Monday morning, police said.

Team spokesman Jim Saccomano said police called him about 3 a.m. local time from the scene of the shooting and told him three people had been shot and that Williams had been killed.

Saccomano said he spoke with coach Mike Shanahan and others in the organization.

"Complete shock. We're speechless. It takes words away. A terrible tragedy," Saccomano said.

Hours before the shooting, the Broncos lost to San Francisco 26-23 in overtime, eliminating them from the playoff race.

This is offically the worst weekend in Denver Broncos history.
The man was the father of two children.
How awful.

I heard this at about 1:30 or so this morning and was 95% asleep so I didnt believe it until I heard it again at about 9:30 this morning then I was like in shock

This is a sad day, I feel for the man's family. This type thing happens all to often in America. It's a shame that people have to do these things.

That is very sad to be killed at such a young age....he had so much potential

This is absolutly terrible. He couldnt have been more than 24, and like Koko said he was a father. I guarentee you not one Bronco will have a thought about missing the playoffs after this.
