Default Terrel Davis, great back or system back

I personally believe TD was a great back. I have heard alot of arguments from people saying he was a product of the Denver system. But hwo many of those backs have approached TD's #'s. None.

Your thoughts....

I agree, he was a pretty good RB. sure the denver system is extremely RB friendly, but if it weren't for migraine problems and injuries, TD would have had a good chance at putting up even bigger numbers than he did at the beginning of his career

Not many have approached his nombers but many have put up oustanding #'s only to go to other teams and look like don't belong in the league. They have taken FB's, late round picks and even marines and have turned them into some of the best looking RB's for a couple of seasons.

I think it's a bit of everything though...the RB's for the system, the system itself as well as the playcalling IMO.

I see what you are saying bigboy, but they have had backs fail in their system (Griffin), backs succeed in their system and fail elsewhere ( Gary), and backs succeed in their system and succeed elsewhere (Droughns, and Portis) So it is kind of hard to gage exactly how misleading some of the stats are. It will be alot easier to tell when we see Anderson play with the Ravens

Griffen just didn't have it though IMO, his size just wouldn't cut it in the NFL.

And in regards to Droughns and Portis they have I guess techically succeeded but nothing like (especially Portis) they were doing in Denver. IMO Portis had he stayed may have gotten 2,000 yards a couple of times.

This is true, but when TD played he was the top back in the league, no other back that played for Denver can make that claim. Portis was a top 5 back(which is subjective), but not the top back, but he himself too is a cut above the other backs that succeeded in that system.

Very true, I'm not doubting TD's talent at all and I think he was the best RB for that system, he was the best at the one cut and go style they had but above all TD had a much better supporting cast as well....especially at QB that made it almost impossible to role safties up.

they are telented players, but when the system is so strong that some are thinking ron dayne will do well, you gotta say the system is part of it.

of course davis was a great back...how many people can say they rushed for 2000 yards? and how many people can say they had 3 rushing TDs in a super bowl?
