The Denver Broncos, who didn't even begin substantive negotiations with the representatives for first-round choice Jarvis Moss until Thursday, on Saturday afternoon reached agreement with the former University of Florida defensive end.

Moss, the 17th player chosen overall in April, will sign a five-year contract. The deal, negotiated by Pat Dye Jr. and Bill Johnson of ProFiles Sports, has a maximum value of $15 million and includes $8 million in guarantees.

One of the quickest pass rushers in the college game over the past two seasons, Moss is expected to contribute quickly for the Broncos, who need to develop a consistent sack threat for a retooled front four. Although he was just a one-year starter in the Gators' program, Moss saw action as a situational player in 2005, and that might be how he begins his NFL career as well.

Built long and lean (6-foot-6½, 250 pounds), Moss will probably have to add some bulk to be able to hang in against the run at the NFL level. But his explosive upfield quickness, and 4.70 speed in the 40, will get him onto the field as a rookie.

Moss, 22, is a very athletic player, a guy with long arms and tremendous closing speed on the quarterback, and it at his best in a pursuit mode.
