ENGLEWOOD, Colo. -- Day 13 of training camp was a short outing for the Broncos as the team walked through a few drills in the early morning before heading to Denver International Airport (DIA). Practice was cut short to allow extra time for players and staff to prepare for the trip to Detroit - in light of recently imposed travel restrictions due to the nation's elevated level of security.
Head Coach Mike Shanahan noted the team's excitement to leave Dove Valley for a few days and kickoff the preseason Friday night vs. the Lions.
"I think that everybody looks forward to this exhibition game," Shanahan said. "You get a chance to see your veterans and how they fare against number ones for 12 plays and you always want to play well. You get a chance to look at your backups and see how they compete against one another in game situations. You can practice all you want, but you have to look forward to these games."
Shanahan also notes how preseason games allow him and the coaching staff to evaluate certain parts of the team in real-time game action.
