They have two wins in two games against two teams that might well finish as the AFC's bottom two.
Is this the start of the Broncos becoming No. 1?
The Broncos might be the only NFL team that is 2-0 and off to a slow start. There is encouragement in that.
"What's exciting," said Broncos safety John Lynch, "is we don't know how good we are, yet."
In some ways, the first two games have brought clarity to the mystery that is the 2007 Broncos. The kid quarterback, Jay Cutler, appears to have considerably more talent than inexperience. The defense - with its new players and new coach and new approach - has mostly quelled preseason concerns by melding competently once games were scored for keeps.
But in other ways, the mystery has only fogged. For all their proven talent, the Broncos needed a schoolhouse fire drill for a field goal as time expired to beat the Buffalo Bills and a timeout to stave off defeat at home against the Oakland Raiders.
