Lions Lack of cup made it easier for Suh’s toe to take Schaub down

Quote:
The ever-shrinking slate of Ndamukong Suh apologists have gotten pretty creative when it comes to making an excuse for his latest act of on-field misconduct.

Texans quarterback Matt Schaub took a dive, some say, because there’s no way the toe to the groin would have penetrated Schaub’s cup.

But here’s the thing. NFL players don’t wear them.

For the same reason many players won’t wear knee pads or thigh pads, cups make it harder to run as fast and move as quickly as they can. It’s a dynamic that former NFL lineman Tim Green explained in his excellent inside look at the NFL from 1996, The Dark Side of the Game.

So, basically, the only thing separating Suh’s toe from its target was a thin layer of gabardine. Or whatever it is they make those Nike pants out of.

LMFAO!!! This comes from people who are idiots and know NOTHING about football!!!

Football players don't wear cups because they pose the risk of dislocating the hip joint if they take a hard shot in the cup!!!

Morons!!!

It's physics... In case people are wondering. A cup can stop and 8 oz ball of a 4 oz puck from wrecking your boys if you get a shot. There isn't enough mass from those object to case serious injuries to the joint. However, when you're talking about 300lbs man hitting you with his helmet or shoulder pad, the force placed on the edges of the cup, which sits right against the crest where the hip joint fits into the pelvis can force said edge into this area and actuely pry it out!!!

If you all recall, there was a player a while back who was accused of grabing guys crotches in games... Again, he wasn't wearing a cup because this is the norm in this sport.

When I played I tried wearing a cup my first practice ever and couldn't walk in it. I was 11 but still I never wore one again.
